Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Assistant for the Center for Emerging and Re-Emerging Pathogens within the New Jersey Medical School. Under direction of the Principal Investigator, the Student Assistant will conduct microbiological, immunological, or biomedical data science research activities to explore the systems biology of infectious diseases.
Among the key duties of this position are the following.
Performs microbiological, immunological, or molecular biology assays including, but not limited to, phenotypic assays, DNA/RNA/protein purification and quantification, genetic cloning, microscopy.
Performs computational analysis including, not limited to, next-generation sequencing analysis, bioinformatic statistical testing, machine learning and other biomedical data analyses.
Assists in the development and testing of new assays including chemical and genetic screens, next-generation sequencing, and/or microscopy.
Works safely in a BSL2 lab environment, compliant with biosafety protocols.
Assists in laboratory organization, including the ordering and stocking of supplies for laboratory efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Assists the Principal Investigator with the preparation of grant applications and manuscripts.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting program at Rutgers University
Experience in microbiology, tissue culture, programming, machine learning, or biomedical data science.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position involves prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment.
Occasional lifting of 20 pounds to a height of 6½ feet.
Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays when necessary to meet deadlines.
