Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
The Research Assistant will assist with mouse colony management, genotyping, drug administration and performing surgical procedures; preparing primary cell cultures and maintaining cell lines and reagents; tissue collection, cryosectioning, immunostaining and fluorescence imaging; as well as performing biochemical analyses including nucleic acid and protein isolation, RTPCR, western blotting, and other techniques. In addition, the position entails acquiring and analyzing data, lab setup, supporting all level of trainees in the lab, ordering and organizing supplies, performing equipment upkeep, ensuring safety and compliance with all Brown policies, and contributing to overall lab administration. This position has a start date of June 1, 2021.
The Mayoral Lab will be opening its doors in the Department of Neuroscience - with affiliation to the Carney Institute for Brain Science - at Brown University in the Summer of 2021 and will be centered on studying neuron-glia interactions in development and disease.
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 05/31/2022Â which may be extended based upon available funding.
Education and Experience:
Required: Bachelorâ™s degree with 1 â“2 years relevant laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with mouse models and colony management is preferred.
Experience with cell culture techniques is preferred.
Experience with biochemistry techniques such as RTPCR and Western blotting is preferred.
Experience with immunofluorescence techniques and imaging is preferred.
Teamwork: Must be willing and able to provide technical support to all laboratory personnel.
Organizational: Must see to maintenance and organization of laboratory research activities.
Interpersonal: Must interact well with other laboratory personnel, with members of the University community, and with outside vendors.
Ability to perform complex experiments, research protocols, and techniques with high levels of reliability and accuracy within time constraints.
Excellent written and communication skills.
Ability to be observant and self-motivated, think critically and problem-solve.
Must be able to multitask between tasks and projects and complete tasks in a timely manner.
This is a 37.5 hour per week position.Â Must be willing to work an adjusted schedule to support research needs.
