Responsible for supervising custodial staff so that buildings and assets of the University are clean and well maintained.Â Ensures high quality fulfillment of cleaning tasks by assigning appropriate number of staff needed, ensuring availability of proper equipment, training staff in appropriate methods, evaluating staff performance, soliciting customer feedback for use in appraising staff and coordinating other tasks, as needed, to complement the overall custodial program.Â Performs, in a professional and timely manner, a variety of administrative functions in support of the overall goals of the Custodial Division, including but not limited to: submission of payroll data, maintenance of key control system, maintenance of attendance records, management of work orders, administering the safety program for assigned staff, administration of collective bargaining agreement between the University and USAWRI.Â Must be able to work required weekend and holiday rotations. 1. Supervise custodial staff to ensure that buildings and assets of the University are clean and well maintained.Â Ensure high quality fulfillment of cleaning tasks. Manage the daily operation of the custodial division for their assigned area.
Plan, schedule, and prioritize work for the staff assigned to the key station, ensuring proper and equitable distribution of assignments and adequate staffing for subsequent performance of duties. Â Request and assign overtime as needed. Assure that the staff is properly equipped and the equipment is maintained in proper working order. Train staff in appropriate methods and ensure that assigned staff are compliant with the safety training program. Make daily visual inspections of area for cleanliness, work progress, and completed work drawing attention to deficiencies that need to be corrected. Solicit customer feedback regarding building conditions. Order and ensure the delivery of supplies. Coordinates other tasks, as needed, to complement the overall custodial program. Evaluates new techniques and methods of custodial cleaning, chemicals and products, and equipment.
2. Performs a variety of administrative functions in support of the overall goals of the Custodial Services Division.
Tracks employee time and submits accurate payroll data. Orders inventory in necessary amounts. Reconciles attendance records. Provides uniforms and safety equipment and PPE. Manages a work order bench, administering and processing service orders. Coordinate services with other areas â“ Events, Trades, building managers and contacts, contractors, etc. Creates and submits reports and compiles and verifies data. Â Attend and contribute at team meetings and one-on-one meetings as scheduled.
3. Manage tasks that support the strategic goals of the Custodial Division
Provide work direction and guidance to personnel within the key station.Â Participate in and carry out various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, team building, performance management and appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.Â Manage the overtime process for bargaining unit staff. Assist in hiring qualified employees by participating in the interview process and making recommendations regarding the employment of applicants. Provide leadership techniques, coach and counsel staff, bringing forward any potential discipline issues, and assist with the disciplinary process, including investigations. Develop and engage a high performing staff.
Associates degree and 2-4 yearsâ™ custodial and/or janitorial experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2 yearsâ™ experience supervising union employees or in labor relations preferred.Â
