Detailed Job Description The College of Art and Design at Rochester Institute of Technology is seeking candidates interested in applying for the position of Web Developer. This position will develop rich web software applications utilizing the most current web technologies, and test and implement web applications for CAD use. The Web Developer will design tightly integrated systems utilizing a wide range of server technologies. Manage and administer security, health and performance of database, web, monitoring, and backup servers. Guide faculty, staff and students on proper use of web related technologies.
The Web Developer will work under the supervision of the CAD Director of Operations but will fully collaborate and receive primary direction from the CADTech Senior Web Programmer/Systems Administrator.
Web Applications and Engineering
Develop and deploy critical high availability integrated Web applications custom-tailored to the academic and research missions of CAD.
Determine necessary features to be implemented and interprets the needs, feasibility, scope of work, and implementation time.
Stay up-to-date with emerging web technologies and development tools.
Collect and review system data for capacity and planning purposes.
Analyze capacity data and develop capacity plans for appropriate level enterprise-wide systems.
Coordinate with appropriate management personnel in implementing changes.
Support and maintain legacy web applications
Monitor and maintain the status and health of all web applications to ensure continuing operations
Gather technical requirements, provide technical advice, and assess and recommend technical solutions
General Systems Administration
Provision, tune, patch, backup and recover virtual machine instances.
Perform complex systems and database administration.
Author and edit scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.
Maintain Docker containers for CAD Web Applications
Work with Senior Web Programmer evaluating, consulting and advising on CAD's web presence for both public-facing and internally-hosted communication and service portals.
Inform, consult and impact curriculum development utilizing our web environment and services
Maintain health, updates and backups of web related services
Act as a liaison to outside developers and designers working for CAD
Develop and follow Documentation and Source Control workflows.
Web Security Administration
Employ advanced best practices and policies of online security for both server-based and user-based applications.
Maintain critical security patches, and recommend what/when patches should be installed.
Employ secure coding best-practices in design and implementation
Provide backup support to Web Development Team.
Participate in 24-hour on-call and back up other team members
Maintain availability for flexible hours including weekends and holidays, as necessary.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Minimum BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or field related to position. Certifications are a plus.
Co-op or 1 Year of direct experience with programming, analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of web applications, mobile applications and databases is required.
Proven background in full stack mobile and web application development
Proficient in PHP development and modern frameworks (e.g. Laravel, Symfony )
Proficient in relational database development (e.g. MySQL,)
Linux server/CLI experience
Familiar with version control software (e.g. Git) and continuous integration System refactoring
Excellent technical troubleshooting skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to translate end-user requirements into effective system designs
Familiar with software testing and unit testing
Exposure to DOCKER
Exposure to Apache2 or NGINX
Exposure to Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence)
Creative, reliable, highly-motivated, hard-working and resourceful
