The Department of Civil and Chemical Engineering at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga invites applicants for a Director/Manager of Civil Laboratories position in civil engineering.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Direct and manage day-to day operation and activities associated with civil engineering laboratories (concrete, asphalt, soil & mechanics of materials laboratories). 2. Ensure laboratory is compliant with university, state and federal regulatory requirements related to personnel safety and quality of laboratory testing as well as professional conduct in assigned areas. 3. Maintain a safe, clean and quality testing environment in the civil engineering laboratories. Oversee investigations of technical issues of lab equipment. 4. Prepare laboratories for instruction. 5. Develop and teach undergraduate laboratories in civil engineering. 6. Assist in the preparation/modification of the laboratory manual. 7. Recommend needed materials, components and equipment. 8. Perform routine maintenance of laboratory and related equipment, supplies and specimens. 9. Complete an annual inventory of laboratory equipment. 10. Make requisition for necessary equipment and supplies. 11. Train students to operate equipment related to labs. 12. Assist students with class projects and senior design projects requiring laboratory activity. 13. Work with department head and faculty on occasional UTC events, such as conferences, workshops, lab visits by external entities or individuals, and promotional and recruitment activities. 14. Department liaison with local community and industry. 15. Improve procedures and functions of the laboratories in which the applicant will be working. 16. Perform other related duties as necessary.
Qualifications and Minimum Requirements Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:
Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferably with two years of experience in academia or industry.
Experience with operating different testing equipment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High standards of interpersonal skills.
General computer skills and the competency in using MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and specific training and skills in AutoCAD would be a plus.
