This is a full-time, 10 month (September - June) AFT position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Note: This position is in the “NL” category of employment (non-fixed work week) An AFT- NL professional staff member or librarian who is required to work beyond 35 hours shall be compensated through compensatory time off. Compensatory time shall be earned for hours worked beyond the normal work week, or on an employee’s regular day off, if requested and approved by their supervisor.

A direct report to the CIO, the Assistant LMS Administrator is responsible for supporting the development and utilization of the college’s current LMS System (Primarily Canvas), other technology-related course tools, outreach to faculty, and faculty/staff training. Under the supervision of the LMS Administrator (a Professional Services Specialist I), the Assistant LMS Administrator is responsible for technical support, administration, and use of the college-wide Learning Management System.
Organize the administration, scheduling, and migration of the college’s LMS courses under the supervision of the LMS Administrator, coordinating with ITS as necessary.
Support the LMS Administrator in the administration of courses and outreach to faculty.
The Assistant will have administrative rights to the current LMS in order to carry out these functions.
Communicate with faculty using the LMS, as requested by the LMS Administrator
Prepare properly formatted course data, roster tables and/or other compatible files for administrative upload to LMS database.
In the absence of the LMS Administrator, open necessary support tickets with the LMS host provider, and track until resolved. Keep LMS administrator and clients notified.
Respond to and close help desk tickets assigned by the ITS Help Desk.
Develop and recommend training activities for faculty and Instructional Design Center (IDC) staff.
Conduct or assist in LMS and other instructional technology trainings offered by the IDC, including hands-on workshops.
Support faculty with LMS course development in the IDC drop-in center or in their offices.
Develop, create, and update user guides, handouts, and video tutorials for instructional technology.
Provide support in the IDC lab to faculty and staff using the computers, scanners, printers, and a variety of software and web-based, technology-related course tools.
Help with supervising Student Aides on-site (IDC), reporting to IDC Director and/or Information Technology Services student aide supervisor as required.
Work with Student Aides, delegating tasks associated with supporting faculty in the IDC, in their offices or during trainings, specifically aiding faculty to:
Improve LMS course development.
Identify the most appropriate use of any/all features in the LMS for teaching and learning.
Work with faculty seeking consultation to develop other (non-LMS) learning materials.
Develop and maintain databases.
Design and develop web pages.
Digitize slides, photographs, other images.
Manage oversized documents for scanning and printing.
Scan printed materials for conversion to other programs like Word and Acrobat.
Scan learning materials.
Prepare and upload tests and files.
Interview prospective student aides, at the direction of their official ITS supervisor and IDC Director.
Manage other product account administration for new account requests from faculty and staff.
Attend conferences, seminars, and online training to enhance technical and pedagogical skills as required.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree is required.
Master’s degree in a field related to educational technology is preferred.
Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis.
Three (3) years of experience in working with information systems is required.
Experience in a higher education or equivalent environment is preferred.
Experience with online course management systems preferred, with a special emphasis on Canvas/Moodle.
Teaching or training experience preferred.
Experience working with diverse populations including faculty, staff and students.
Working knowledge of a range of Adobe applications; Microsoft Office Suite; web-page related software; PC setup, installation, and troubleshooting is highly desirable
