Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Medicine within the Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct specialized research techniques and procedures related to the gut microbiome as it relates to intestinal health and disease. The lab has a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease, longitudinal microbiome dynamics, and multi-omic analyses. The Postdoc will use their training and judgment to apply research methods and techniques, to analyze and present data, and to understand the mechanics of building and maintaining a translational research program. The Postdoc will also assist with budgetary, training, and administrative responsibilities; and will perform general laboratory management to ensure the smooth functioning of the lab.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs specialized research techniques and procedures related to the pathophysiology and molecular biology of diseases, particularly in the areas of gastrointestinal disease, inflammation, immunity, infection, and systems biology.
Keeps neat, thorough, and up-to-date records of procedures and experiments using paper and/or electronic platforms.
Compiles and analyzes data with appropriate conclusions and plans for further investigation, publications, and grant applications. Will present data to PI and other lab members.
Assists in the establishment of performance standards, as well as in the selection of research methodologies and instrumentation, and coordination of instrumentation and experimental approaches in support of research.
Assists with the instruction and training of students, fellows, residents, and research assistants in laboratory techniques and concepts.
Candidates in all but degree (ABD) status will also be considered.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective oral and written communication skills; and ability to understand and communicate in English to sufficiently perform the job duties.
Computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
