Reporting to the Director for Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion, the Assistant Director is a full-time administrator position in the Office of Intercultural Engagement & Inclusion (IEI), within the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement of the Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director advocates, supports, and raises awareness about underrepresented intersecting identities, including: age, disability (from birth), disability (acquired), religion, ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, education, sexual orientation, national origin, language, citizenship, gender identity, gender expression, body size and veteran status.
The Assistant Director fosters a strong sense of community and student development within Hofstraâ€™s diverse student populations, implementing educational programs with social justice and culturally-focused student organizations and with departments within the University for the campus community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
â€¢Develop diversity and inclusion workshops and trainings for students and other campus constituencies. â€¢Serve as a campus advocate and resource point person for historically underrepresented student groups. â€¢Work in collaboration with all offices within the Division of Student Affairs, colleagues across the University, and members of the local community to establish student-centered programs that support the Hofstra and Division of Student Affairs missions. â€¢Coordinate formal assessment for programs and events â€¢Update and maintain the departmental website, related social media venues, communication plans, and other office marketing. â€¢Provide leadership on the annual Graduates of Color and Lavender Graduates Celebrations. â€¢Conduct research using best practices and benchmarking for innovative initiatives serving various communities. â€¢Assist the Director with all aspects of the office operations and contribute to strategic planning and implementation of departmental goals and objectives. â€¢Serve as an active member of the Administrative Conduct Board for the Office of Community Standards, including all required training. â€¢Assist with the planning of office retreats and staff meetings. â€¢Assist the Title IX Officer and Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer with student identity-based issues. â€¢Serve on University and divisional committees and complete other tasks as assigned. â€¢Assist in recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of the IEI Graduate Assistant â€¢Support the management of the IEI Peer Educators with the assistance of the Graduate Assistant â€¢Assist in the training and supervision of student assistants.
