The Department of Radiology is part of the School of Dentistry. Radiology is located in B307 and is a pre-doc clinic. Radiology is part of the Office of Clinical Services (OCS) at the School of Dentistry which encompasses the Patient Registration and Patient Relations offices, Simulation Clinic and Labs, Central Sterilization, two dispensaries, and facilities maintenance team. OCS supports the operations of 13 dental clinics in delivering dental care to the state’s largest and most diverse patient population. We utilize a team oriented approach and work very hard to delight our patients. The Department of Radiology at the School of Dentistry has an outstanding opportunity for a DENTAL XRAY TECHNICIAN 2 .
The DENTAL XRAY TECHNICIAN 2 will under general supervision, perform complex dental x-ray procedures such as take extraoral/intraoral radiographs and assist with sialography using fluoroscopic procedures; operate specialized dental x-ray equipment such as polytome tomograph, skull table and cephalostat; participate in quality control; and assist in instructing dental students in x-ray techniques.
RESPONSIBILITIES •Take FMX, Panoramic, Occlusal and Lateral Images and CBCTs •Answer phones and respond to e-mails •Ensure that payments have been collected prior to the start of a procedure •Call patient to schedule an appointment when a referral has been received from axiUm or a private provider •Transfer CBCT images to server or mail CBCT images on a CD with the report to private provider •Contact patient to schedule appointment once pre-authorization has been completed •Assign 2D & 3D reports to radiology residents, make sure radiology faculty have approved all the reports and submit charges to billing. Notify providers when report or CBCT images are ready •Have an understanding of medical and dental insurance for sending pre-authorizations •Possess/obtain knowledge of MiPACS system •Communicate with faculty, residents and students in all departments •Import images to MiPACS and export images for records release on CD •Understand the operation of radiology equipment •Understand or obtain knowledge for axiUm •Assist 2nd year dental students with x-ray taking techniques •Create T account in axiUm when scheduling new patient •Maintain Inventory and place orders •Clean, set-up ops & sterilize Rinn kits
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: •Two years of experience as a Dental X-Ray Technician I or equivalent OR equivalent education/experience. •Experience can be substituted with an accredited dental assisting certificate or degree
Equivalent education/experience can substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
