The UW Libraries has an outstanding full time opportunity for a Circulation Supervisor / Library Supervisor I.
This position, in coordination with the Supervisory Team, maintains the daily operations of Central Circulation services and stacks activities for both Suzzallo/Allen and Sand Point collections. Coordinates and manages the administrative supervisory functions for student hiring, payroll processing, scheduling, and maintenance of payroll records. This position works Sunday- Thursday, 2:00PM - 10:30PM during the academic year, but schedule will vary for interims and an initial training period.
Supervises 25-35 student staff, establishing daily goals and monitoring workflow. Ensures student work is consistent with departmental policies and goals. Makes changes to daily workflows to ensure timely completion of tasks and/or projects.
Monitors departmental student budget throughout the budget cycle to maintain adequate staffing levels. Approves/denies leave requests based upon departmental needs and budgetary concerns.
Based on departmental needs and budget limits, interviews and hires student applicants. Evaluates student performance and takes appropriate action including, but not limited to, promotion or termination of student staff.
Trains staff in use of circulation system, circulation procedures, services, policies, and shelving and maintenance of book stacks. Maintains record of student staff progress, attendance, competency, and clearance for specific technical duties.
Responsible for administrative supervisory functions including, but not limited to, payroll processing, updating and managing payroll records, and scheduling of student staff. Responsible for scheduling staff and student staff on the public service desk.
Creates and implements changes to departmental procedures and strategies.
Provides support and training for the Campus Delivery, Suzzallo & Allen ID Page and mail delivery, Receiving Room, mailing, shipping, recycling and shredding services. Monitors schedules of deliveries and services as needed.
Serve as secondary supervisor for stacks management for both Suzzallo and Allen and Sand Point collections. Serve as secondary supervisor for Sand Point student staff. Assume secondary responsibility for the retrieval of materials from the collections housed at Sand Point and other related activities performed by Sand Point student staff. May drive Libraries delivery van between Seattle campus and Sand Point facility.
Recommends changes and improvement of unit routines and procedures.
Processes 10-20 departmental and LibAnswers emails daily. Responds to requests for circulation services. Responds to replies to automated system generated circulation notices. Explains library polices. Manages and maintains email records.
Provides complex circulation services resolving complex problems brought by patrons and/or other staff. Explains the Library circulation and fine policy to patrons. Instructs and assists patrons in locating material.
Educates patrons in the basic operations of the Library.
Makes decisions regarding exceptional circumstances such as waiver of fines and exceptions to normal policy.
Supervises the clearing of building users during closing. Ensures buildings are locked. Reports problems as appropriate. Oversees use of portable radios, monitors upkeep and recommends needs for repair or replacement.
Troubleshoots hardware, software, and network problems in the unit and reports issues to Information Technology Services when needed.
Maintains statistics on unit activities.
Cross trains for other positions within the department in order to gain basic troubleshooting skills for various positions and provide coverage for other team members.
Understands and abides by the Libraries Personal Communication.

High school graduation AND four years of library technical experience, including one year of lead and/or supervisory experience OR equivalent education/experience.
Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
Proven organizational skills and ability to handle shifting priorities and multiple tasks.
Ability to clearly explain complex services and policies in person, over the phone and in written correspondence.
Demonstrated training experience.
Experience with web editing software.
Demonstrated experience with word processing, database maintenance and spreadsheet software.
Demonstrated commitment to promote equitable access and service to a diverse community.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
Able to lift 25-50 pound boxes and crates and push heavy book trucks.
