The Digital Strategy & Web Services group at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) seeks an experienced Director, Content Strategy & Production.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Digital Strategy & Web Services, the Director, Content Strategy & Production will play a key role in directing and developing digital experiences that provide our audiences with contextualized information across digital touchpoints throughout their journey. This person will be responsible for researching and leveraging cutting-edge technologies to provide the right content to the right audiences at the right time. The successful candidate will work closely with the Digital Strategy & Marketing team and collaborate with front and back-end developers to provide exceptional content/user experiences.
The ideal candidate is someone who is multi-skilled, equally at ease with content strategy, production, and the creation of exceptional digital experiences.
Develop short- and long-term product and content strategies that advances CUIMCâ€™s mission
Direct the creation compelling user experiences and content across platforms to achieve brand, marketing and business objectives
Serve as a cross-functional leader who works with stakeholders and the web technology team to define, create, and launch digital products and websites
Oversee team of web content producers (both CUIMC employees and freelancers) who work with stakeholders to develop content, manage digital assets, and projects
Assess needs for next 3-5 years and complete a vision for web product strategy and content strategy
Assess future needs and help direct resources to filling them
Drive consensus around major decisions using data-driven frameworks, methodologies, and analysis
Effectively manage resources to ensure a successful client relationship
Address complex, technical issues and communicate those to both technical and non-technical personnel
Serve as a leader on the CUIMC campus as UX and content expert
Collaborate with content contributors across CUIMC
Collaborate with billing manager to ensure billable time is adequately documented by all team members
Work closely with the Chief Communications Officer (CMCO) and Executive Director, Digital Strategy & Web Services on the rebuild and redesign of CUIMCâ€™s patient care website
Define methods and metrics for identifying success and failure while ensuring the team is clear on their objectives.
Serve as a creative, engaged, and enthusiastic mentor to build and lead a team, that adheres to a standard of excellence and achievement.
Oversee, guide, edit, and manage the work of the content and production team.
Establish baseline KPIs to measure the impact of content strategy, ensuring accountability to leadership
Maintain organizational and resource balance, including identifying budgeting and hiring needs proactively
Other duties as assigned
Bachelorâ€™s degree required, MBA preferred, in English, Communications, Education, Business Management, Marketing or equivalent in work experience;
5+ years minimum experience in content strategy, creation and production with experience driving content roadmap, from internally managed content to licensed content for web/mobile
Hands-on experience designing successful consumer-facing content for digital properties, ideally in higher-education and healthcare.
Track record of developing and executing innovative content and website strategies at scale
Experience leading user and market research; prior experience working with research agencies is a plus, though not required
Strong business foundation, including comfort with numbers and analysis of data
Proven experience in how content and user experience affect Search Engine Optimization.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; experience working directly with content operations, product managers, marketing and other related stakeholders
Strong work ethic; self-starting personality with the ability to problem solve and develop creative solutions; works well and stays focused under little supervision
Ability to work cross-functionally with a distributed team across product, development, marketing, media relations, and communications.
Inform product decisions with quantitative data on user behavior and experimentation (a/b testing).
Facilitate communication throughout the development process by partnering with a variety of internal teams including marketing, business development, customer support, and community.
Highly detail-oriented and developed analytical skills to detect patterns, brainstorm, interpret data and make metric-driven decisions.
A curiosity and keen eye for relevant emerging technologies and digital experiences and how to leverage them to improve customer engagement and enhance business.
A passion for automation, and an interest in the role artificial intelligence can play in improving user experience, content and efficiency.
Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing and decentralized environment.
Worked in product management with both technical and non-technical capacity
Experience managing a team
Experience working in decentralized, cross-functional, and/or matrix organizations
Excellent stakeholder management skills
Passion for education and empathy for learners
Product marketing experience a plus
Excellent written, verbal communication, project and time management skills.
