The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) has been the heart of the Indiana University Bloomington campus for more than 100 years. Each year, thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests enjoy the many amenities and opportunities the IMU has to offer.
The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) Meeting Services staff is responsible for handling all functions related to meeting support within the IMU, making sure no detail is overlooked. With nearly 100 years of special event experience, about 50,000 square feet of meeting space, and almost 30 venue spaces to choose from, the IMU hosts thousands of events each year.
The Indiana Memorial Union offers event and conference facilities to students, faculty, staff, and general public, providing premium event space and top quality service. IMU Meeting Services is a high volume department that hosts over eleven thousand events and meetings annually. The Events Manager will be directly involved in the advance planning of events and will serve as onsite support for high profile events, conferences, and banquets. They will also ensure a high level of customer service and guest satisfaction by communicating with and supporting other IMU hospitality team members.
Responsible for the planning, development, and execution of events that support the strategic goals and objectives of the university. Responsible for event objectives and requirements, client budgets, facilities preparation, catering coordination, event signage, communications equipment, and all other aspects of carrying off a myriad of events. Additionally, this role coordinates event activities, monitors effectiveness, coordinates with our hotel operation, and makes recommendations on return on investment purchases.
The Events Manager tracks and analyzes event metrics, such as attendance, participant feedback, and expenses. Monitors effectiveness and return on investment. Tracks suggested event improvements for future implementation in recurring events. They ensure that events adhere to IMU and IU guidelines and policies and event contracts, agreements, and specifications. This position is expected to be onsite for events that occur during the academic year and summer, during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, public administration or a related field.
Two years of experience in events, hospitality, or a related field.
Proficient communication skills.

Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. Use of common office equipment such as computer, multiline telephone, Microsoft Office software, printer, and fax expected. Event management system utilized. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
