Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Health Educator I for the Department of Pediatrics within the New Jersey Medical School. Under direction of the Medical Director, the Health Educator I will be responsible for stimulating public awareness of health needs, sound health practices, university and community resources.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides education and outreach to the community.
Promotes public awareness of Family Planning, HIV, and STI for prevention and improved public health status.
Provides HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Counseling.
Lead staff for the Youth Advisory Board (YAB).
Provides evidenced based education to the community on HIV, STIs, Family Planning, Adolescent Health, and other related topics.
Writes health education program plans with measurable objective for various health components based on health promotion and other health service guidelines and identified health education needs.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Nursing, or related field plus three (3) years of health education experience or a Master's degree plus two (2) years of health education experience.
Equivalent experience, education, and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have working knowledge of Newark and the Greater Essex County Community.
Must be able to work independently and as a team player.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
NJDOH certified HIV/PrEP counselor.
Proficiency in Spanish.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift or exert force up to ten (10) pounds.
