1.Answer reference questions and provide research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and public patrons in person, online, and by telephone. 2.Instruct students, faculty, and staff on library use and research skills. 3.Develop lesson plans and teach library orientations for classes face-to-face and online in the Sakai learning management system. 4.Create research guides, handouts, instructional videos, and online instructional content such as tutorials. 5.Assist students in using College website and campus technologies. 6.Assist with library-wide collection development and maintenance, and regular assessment of the collections. 7.Staff an online chat reference service. 8.Assist with library events or library-sponsored activities. 9.Conduct outreach to faculty, departments, programs to promote the library. 10.Assist with cataloging and processing materials for the collections. 11.Create social media and blog content for the libraries. 12.Assist patrons in using computers, printers, copiers, and scanners. 13.Handle circulation tasks such as answering phones, creating library accounts, and charging and discharging materials. 14.Serve on College councils and committees. 15.Serve as academic advisor for students at the College. 16.Create and give presentations to faculty and staff in the College's Teaching-Learning Center. 17.Support faculty and staff with copyright and scholarly communications questions. 18.Maintain a safe and secure library environment by providing coverage during open hours and locking library at closing. 19.Supervise work-study students, interns, or volunteers during library hours. 20.Assume other duties as assigned by the Library Director, the appropriate Division Head, Vice President, and/or the President.
The Reference Librarian is responsible for performing reference, instruction, research, and circulation functions at the three primary libraries: Main Campus library, Northern Durham Center library, and Orange County Campus library and online. When working at NDC or OCC campuses, the librarian serves as solo librarian and works independently. The Librarian will serve as liaison to off-campus sites, including the American Tobacco Campus, Duke Street North, and The Chesterfield. The Reference Librarian is also responsible for the overall operation of library services during assigned evening and Saturday hours. Specific duties and responsibilities are listed below.
