Department Summary & Job Purpose:
Head Women's Soccer Coach and Lecturer in Physical Education and Athletics is a full-time coaching and teaching position at the rank of lecturer. Under the supervision of the chair of physical education and director of athletics, the successful candidate will coach, organize, and administer an intercollegiate varsity soccer program as well as teach lifetime sports and fitness activities in the physical education department.
Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following functions:
Develop and implement strategies to successfully recruit, yield, mentor, and retain a diverse group of academically and athletically talented student-athletes.
Identify, develop, and supervise assistant coach(s).
Organize, manage, and schedule practices, training programs, and contests.
Coach student-athletes to their full potential.
Develop and manage sport and recruiting budgets for soccer.
Manage team travel and meals in consultation with the department coordinator.
Work with the associate athletics director for facilities to ensure maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Promote a culture of compliance by working with the associate director of athletics to complete necessary NCAA paperwork, staying informed of sport and governance body rule changes to minimize violations, and in the case of violations or problems, reporting them without delay for immediate attention.
Engage with donors and potential donors as requested by the director of athletics.
Promote a culture of health, well-being, and safety in all aspects of the varsity sport and physical education programs.
Imagine and implement innovative and fun physical education courses that appeal to a range of skill sets, interests, and experiences.
Provide the administrative support for the physical education program, including but not limited to class syllabus development, maintaining attendance records, and grading.
Participate on department and College committees as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree; demonstrated successful coaching and recruiting experience; the ability to work well with student-athletes; and the ability to function effectively at a competitive liberal arts NCAA Division III college with highly selective academic standards.
Preferred Qualifications: A Master’s degree and teaching experience is preferred.
Compliance Requirements: All department employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Conference and College rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the department are to be reported to the appropriate parties. Annually, each department member must pass the NCAA Division III rules test and complete athletics staff sexual violence prevention training.
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/ or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as light work. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Sufficient clarity of speech required includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person and by telephone. Employee speaks with students and other faculty daily by telephone, e-mail, or in person on a daily basis. Visual Acuity including color, depth perception and field vision.
Working Conditions: Regular evening and weekend hours are involved and the ability to travel is required.
