Under general supervision of the Music Department Chair, the Piano Technician maintains and cares for approximately 110 pianos and 2 harpsichords in Cypress and Nordhoff Halls.
This incumbent is responsible for tuning, voicing, action regulation, and general repair of pianos and performs restoration work; is responsible for inventory and record keeping.
Purchases parts and supplies using departmental procurement card.
Responsible for inventory and record keeping.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Two years of experience in tuning and repairing pianos, harpsichords, and related instruments; which includes overhauling and rebuilding pianos.
Completion of a formal training program which provides the individual with the knowledge and abilities required of the position may be substituted for the two years of general tuning and repairing experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the principles of design, construction and mechanical operation of pianos.
Ability to: tune, regulate and voice a piano to the exact tonal qualities and touch desired by various individual pianists; overhaul and rebuild pianos; tune, regulate and voice a piano to exact specifications;
Ability to inspect and diagnose problems, and make minor repairs to pianos and related instruments and ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Classification: 6951; Piano Technician
The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $2364.70 - 3607.50 (PTE), dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $2364.70 -$4278.30 (PTE) per month.
HOURS: Part-Time; 26 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include some evenings and weekends.
REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
