GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The director’s primary responsibility is the development and strategic execution and management of a comprehensive annual and leadership-giving program, including the coordination and supporting initiatives in the areas of development services and donor relations in support of the University mission. The person in this role will have dual focus on both identifying and soliciting leadership donors ($500+) while increasing participation from all constituencies as a result of robust engagement with alumni, parents, parents of alumni, and friends of the University.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage and execute all aspects of the annual and leadership-giving program including direct response, telephone, email, social media, phone-a-thon, Giving Days, volunteers and class agents and personal solicitations.
Consult with the Vice President to strategize annual campaign fundraising and designated gift effort goals and advancement team event fundraising goals.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors with focus on relationship building and growing philanthropic support for the University primarily through annual giving, with opportunities for involvement in leadership and designated major gifts.
Manage a portfolio of 75 assigned donors and prospects able to make a gift of $500+.
Oversee the acknowledgement, stewardship and recognition of all Annual Fund donors; personally acknowledge or coordinate President’s acknowledgement of all gifts from assigned prospects.
Coordinate annual giving with reunion campaigns and other specialty constituents, such as trustees, foundation directors, alumni board members, parents and faculty/staff, in a sophisticated and effective fashion.
Foster the growth of best practices in the supporting areas of gift processing, data management and donor relations as related to annual giving and the University as a whole.
Implement timely and on-going personal/written/phone contact with major donors/ potential donors including thank you letters, tax receipts and acknowledgement events.
Work with the team on all special events as assigned and represent the University at alumni, parent and other constituent events.
Manage overall annual fund budget inclusive of travel, meals, and professional development.
Manage system for in-kind donations.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) and five to seven years of experience with annual giving appeals or other relevant experience.
Goal oriented, persistent and persuasive in the contact, follow-through and completion of acquiring donor gifts.
Strong organizational, administration, phone and interpersonal communication skills, detail and “big picture” oriented.
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; prefer experience writing solicitation and acknowledgement letters, overseeing stewardship pieces, creating social media posts, PowerPoint presentations and more.
Demonstrated analytical and fundraising skills with annual giving metrics and managing such metrics with the ability to recognize opportunities identify critical, high pay-off activities and prioritize them to attain goals.
Preference will be given to candidates with Raiser’s Edge experience as well as familiarity with the Blackbaud community of software or equivalent CRM.
Professional demeanor and able to respond to and handle multiple demands in a team oriented environment.
Must be flexible regarding work schedule and ability to travel and to work nights and weekends, as required.
Ability to work cooperatively to achieve common goals; support cooperation, collaboration and the sharing of information while providing the best quality product available and continuously upgrade standards to maintain quality, in all areas of responsibility.
Ability to listen carefully to and understand constituents’ needs, both internally and externally, and proactively respond to those needs in a consistent and timely manner
Candidates should also possess high-energy, work independently and as a team member.
Excellent organizational, analytical, time management, problem solving skills and attention to detail.
Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
