The University of Southern Californiaâs Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy is seeking a part-time Media Specialist to join its team. This position will provide public relations, marketing and communications assistance and administrative support for the Communications department.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES / JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develop media outreach strategy aligned with the Academyâs priorities and initiatives
Cultivating working relationships with writers, editors, and producers in the print/digital media on a national, regional, and local levels
Responds to media requests for information about the Academy
Writes and disseminates press releases, features stories, student/faculty achievements to secure media coverage
Promotes and arranges interviews between IYA and media. Develops talking points, coaches faculty and/or staff pre-interview and follow-up to secure coverage
Plans and coordinates press conferences and identifies/coordinates speaking opportunities for IYA principals
Compiles and distributes press kits as needed. Develops additional promotional materials (e.g. bios, statistics, photos, video) when appropriate
Other duties as assigned or requested.
Candidates must have the ability to work successfully within a team environment. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Working knowledge of MS Office is required. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat) and video-editing software is preferred.
2 years of freelance writing or agency writing experience
Interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of design, technology, entrepreneurship, and communication
Knowledge of AP Style Guide
Experience with photography and videography
