Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Working at MIT offers opportunities, an environment, a culture - and benefits - that just aren't found together anywhere else. If you're curious, motivated, want to be part of a unique community, and help shape the future - then take a look at this opportunity.
POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE , Chemistry-Pentelute Lab (2 openings), to implement affinity selection platforms for the discovery of peptide-based inhibitors of protein-protein interactions. The work will involve the design and solid-phase synthesis of combinatorial peptide libraries containing both canonical and non-canonical amino acids, screening the peptides in solution and on beads against a variety of therapeutically-relevant protein targets, modeling, and structural analysis to improve peptide affinity for the desired target. Will also develop structure-activity relationship data for target binding and desirable biophysical properties, advance lead candidates to studies of biological activity in mammalian cell culture and potentially preliminary studies in mice, and train lab members on the new methods developed.
REQUIRED : a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field, excellent communication skills, and willingness to mentor and train graduate students and other lab members. PREFERRED : experience with the design and synthesis of combinatorial peptide libraries, mass spectrometry, size exclusion chromatography methods, biopurification of proteins, and/or biophysical assays to determine biomolecule binding constants; expertise with chemical methods for peptide modification; and experience with mammalian cell culture and mouse handling.
