Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of full time professional experience working with an Intramural Sport program in a college or university setting. Experience with the rules of a variety of sports. Experience working with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, alumni and community organizations. Experience recruiting, hiring and/or training student employees and sport officials. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education, Business Management, Higher Education, Student Personnel or related field. Additional (4+) years of full time professional experience working with an Intramural Sport program in a college or university setting. Experience coordinating competition schedules for a large number of teams using round robin and single/double elimination structures. Experience advising sport club programs. Experience developing and managing a budget. Field lining experience. CPR/AED certification and/or AHA CPR/AED Instructor certification.
Brief Description of Duties: The Assistant Director of Intramurals and Sports Clubs will be responsible for leading and directing a comprehensive Intramural and Sport Club program. Administer all aspects of the Intramural Sports program offered through the Department of Recreation and Wellness. Provide leadership and advising 40+ clubs including managing club practice and competition schedules. Travel and enforcement of risk management policies and procedures. The incumbent will assist with facility supervision and operation of the Walter J Hawrys Campus Recreation Center. Incumbent must have the ability to recruit, hire and train student employees and sport officials. Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication and computer skills. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to successfully work with a diverse campus population of students, faculty, staff, alumni and community organizations.
Responsible for leading and directing a comprehensive intramural program including planning and scheduling intramural and recreational sports and special events. Recruit, hire, train and schedule student coordinators and sport officials. This will include managing payroll and evaluations for over 50 student employees. Manage intramural software system for program registration, scheduling and participant data. Responsible for all campus wide publicity for the intramural program including managing website, calendars, fliers, and social media. Develop and manage an intramural budget of $70,000. Responsible for maintaining inventories for both the intramural program and making decisions regarding the acquisition of new equipment and supplies to support programs. Responsible for preparing the annual report for intramural programs.
Oversee Sport Club registration and ensure that all documentation is appropriately completed and filed. Provide leadership and advisement for 30+ sport clubs including managing club practice and competition schedules, travel, hiring of coaches, inventory and enforcement of risk management policies and procedures. Will assist Undergraduate Student Government (USG) with budget and financial resources. Develop and advise the Sport Club Council and work closely with the organizations in the transition of leadership each year. Responsible for preparing the annual report for sport club programs. Will work closely with Student Engagement and Activities (SEA) and USG and advise USG on sport club budget allocations. Oversee the assignment of storage space for Sport Clubs.
Assist with winter and summer facility rentals. Oversee field lining, field set ups and site supervision.
Assist with Campus Recreation Center facility operation and supervision. Assistant Director will share responsibility of opening and closing the facility with other professional staff in the department.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes: This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
