Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree). Four  years of full-time professional experience with System Administration, including hardware installation, configuration, monitoring, upgrades, repairs, and working with industry best practices. Experience in scripting, network and communications and interacting with multiple *Nix operating systems (e.g. OEL, RHEL, Unix). Experience with Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) or RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) versions 6 and 7 or Solaris 10.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree). Project management experience. Experience in administering, configuring and maintaining Linux/Unix systems within the Information Technology field. Experience with managing Storage Area Networks (SAN) including Fiber Channel, iSCSI, and Logical Volume Manager (LVM). Experience with server virtualization technologies like VMWare, Hyper-V and Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM) as well as cloud-based hosting (e.g. Azure, Amazon, etc). Experience with Out of Band Management technologies, e.g. HPE iLO and OneView, Oracle/SUN ILOM/ALOM and Dell iDRAC. Experience working with budget processes.
Brief Description of Duties: The Senior Programmer Analyst is responsible for managing, monitoring and maintaining Linux servers supporting Oracle Database related functions of the University. They will work closely with departments to understand their requirements and assist in finding technology solutions that make operations more effective and efficient. The position will collaborate and lead colleagues to ensure reliable and effective delivery of computer applications for their clients. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing a collaborative environment in the team and ensuring effective communication to and among team members. The Linux Administrator is responsible for communicating issues and opportunities to their supervisor and for ensuring records and documentation are kept up to date. The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Business Analysis, Application Design, Development, Management, Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Problem Resolution: Work with Stony Brook University Administrative Operations Departments to prepare studies to evaluate user needs and define system requirements, perform analyses of complex data processing applications with complex logical relationships, research and evaluate solutions, conceptualize designs, purchase, configure and maintain systems or configure, develop and refine application functionality, install, configure and maintain systems within required time periods.
Manage vendor support of vendor-provided software services and support. Plan, analyze, design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and maintain custom applications and reports to meet business requirements including testing, debugging and installing. Design, build and maintain complex data integrations between University systems, while ensuring data security and integrity. Coordinate integrations to help streamline business operations. Consult with clients to understand current and future operating procedures and clarify program objectives to ensure systems effectively support operational requirements.
Investigate new technology trends, for example, web/mobile technologies, big data analysis needs, self-service, Software as a Service and other Cloud technologies to enable the university to leverage appropriate technologies to support current and future institutional needs. Research and keep up-to-date with technology developments and employ new technologies to ensure applications, systems, reports, and interfaces at the university take advantage of new features.
Collaborate with other Division of Information Technology staff to ensure effective maintenance, troubleshooting, problem resolution, management and support for systems and applications. Employ standards to ensure data accuracy, security and privacy of information to which they have access as a result of their duties. Advise management of potential breaches of data and systems security. Assist users in accessing and utilizing their data. Recommend new or modified standards and procedures in their absence.
In performance of all job duties, at all times be responsible for delivering optimal customer service, for protecting institutional data and privacy, and the excellent delivery of solutions and services by following divisional and University policies, procedures, and processes.
Admissions Systems Projects: Prepare and deliver proposals and reports to ensure effective communication of status, issues and opportunities to a variety of audiences including the Division of Information Technology, administrative operational departments. Lead and guide other team members and student employees. Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Systems and Cloud Infrastructure, review programs formulated by team members. Act as Project Manager on assigned development projects. Document applications, reports, and interfaces to describe program objectives, use cases, development, configurations, corrections, and other elements required to ensure others have sufficient information to support.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.
Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. For this position, we are unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.
