USC's School of Cinematic Arts Office of Student Services is seeking a Senior Academic Advisor to join its team. This position will provide academic advising for students enrolled in the undergraduate Film and Television Production and Cinema and Media Studies programs, as well as Cinematic Arts minor students. Â The Student Services Advisor II position will also coordinate and provide leadership for student support programs and initiatives and event planning within the SCA Office of Student Services and will assist in other special projects as assigned.
The Senior Academic Advisor is responsible for tracking and monitoring undergraduate students and will serve as a resource for our admissions team with recruitment and conversion events. The position serves as one of the primary points of contact for undergraduate issues for a variety of offices across campus including the Registrarâs office, Academic Review, Academic Support Services, Financial Aid, etc.
Provides academic advising for undergraduate students. Advises on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, graduation counseling and course clearances.
Advises students on degree tracks and professional goals, providing career information where appropriate and refers students to faculty and SCA Industry Relations.
Assess targeted student or group needs and recommends programs or services. Execute and coordinate student engagement programs, academic support and advisement services and student services events.
Monitors student progress, tracks course enrollment, retention, graduation rates and time to degree completion. Maintains and compiles statistical data. Prepares reports for internal and external use.
Evaluates student problems, academic, administrative or personal, and refers student to appropriate student services office for additional counseling. Liaises with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.
Interface with faculty and divisional staff regarding policies and student academic progress.
Maintains academic unit student records and coordinates registration activities, degree progress, enrollment and degree verification, grading, and transcripts.
Works with both the SCA Admissions team and Scholarships Coordinator on various events, programming and providing student support.
Maintains currency on USC and SCA policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to admissions and student affairs.

A minimum of 5 years of Academic Advising and/or related professional experience within higher education.
Experience leading and coordinating student services events and programming.
Background in student development theory.
Strong interpersonal skills
Experience in community building
Previous experience in media arts education/administration or familiarity with media arts communities
