The Human Resources department in CEHD has an opening for a Human Resource Management System (HRMS)/Payroll Specialist to join our team. The HRMS/Payroll Specialist enters personnel and job data changes into the HRMS system and processes payroll in accordance with University and college policies, procedures and guidelines. This role is one of two critical positions responsible for ensuring timely and accurate payroll, and data integrity for the entire college. Major duties include interpreting and entering personnel and compensation data into HRMS in conjunction with providing world class customer service to all clients. Other duties include training new HR liaisons, and conducting college-wide appointment workshops. The position reports to the HRMS Lead Supervisor and requires excellent attention-to-detail, strong execution, problem-solving skills, initiative, time management and interpersonal relationship skills.
Appointment Entry (60%)
Enter and maintain appointment, compensation, contract, and other payroll related information in HRMS for new, current, and terminated employees.
Request, receive, review, and interpret personnel and compensation information to ensure accurate HRMS data while ensuring compliance with applicable employee work rules, human resource related laws, University of Minnesota policies/procedures and retaining documentation.
Review HRMS data utilizing University policies and procedures and governing documents to ensure accuracy.
Maintain and track pay/leave entries in HRMS.
Abstract Review/Payroll Verification (20%)
Research, analyze, resolve and manage sensitive employee payroll discrepancies, such as underpayments/ overpayments, and reconcile issues
Review and validate biweekly payroll verification reports
Run reports and queries to analyze and validate time and absence reported throughout the payroll cycle
Run HRMS reports and perform quarterly system data clean-up
Position Management Entry (10%)
Review and enter position requests for all employee groups in CEHD
Advise departments on position management guidelines and resources
Maintain position data and oversee annual position management clean-up
Assist with HRMS training, including annual summer and fall appointment trainings
Update HRMS and Payroll webpages on the College's intranet site
Review and maintain CEHD payroll job aids to insure information is up-to-date

Minimum High School Diploma/GED.
Four (4) years of work experience that includes at least two (2) years of payroll experience. Training and education may be substituted for some of the years of experience.
Minimum one (1) year data entry experience utilizing one of the following enterprise systems: PeopleSoft, Ceridian, ADP, Paychex, Lawson.
Experience working with a diverse group of clients from all backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage priorities, meet deadlines and execute projects in a fast-paced environment.
Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex payroll or finance problems.
Minimum one (1) year experience delivering high level customer service, including:
Resolving payroll discrepancies (such as notifying employees of under or over payments and initiating the collection).
Consulting, informing, and educating others (departments, administrators, colleagues, and employees) on numerous, various, and complex appointment and payroll policies and procedures as they relate to various employee group labor contracts.
Work experience in a Human Resources environment.
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, including the ability to prepare documents and spreadsheets utilizing standard composing, editing, formatting and formula features of the software.
Ability to coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously (i.e. managing frequent interruptions, answering phone inquiries, processing payroll under deadline, processing off-cycle payroll requests, and generating reports).
Experience collaborating and consulting with others for policy, procedure, & contract clarification to ensure the proper completion of human resource-related processes (hiring & payroll).
Demonstrated ability to be proactive in making process improvements, with attention to detail and seeking new approaches/techniques to problem solving.
Experience developing and facilitating end user training, including creating job-aids and procedure documentation and demonstrating the use of collegiate applications.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
