Business Analysts clarify the business needs of a group of stakeholders and help find solutions to meet those identified needs. Additionally, they implement and test processes and help troubleshoot when problems arise.
Continuity and Compliance at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is seeking to hire multiple individuals to work in association with the DegreeCat Project (Degree Planning, Catalogs, Curriculum). The positions will be part of a team that is working on the implementation of Curriculum and Catalog Management systems and their connections with Degree Planning systems. These business processes are integrated between our current Electronic Course Authorization System (ECAS), the Program & Curriculum Authorization System (PCAS), the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions (PSCS) system, and the Stellic Degree Planning system that leverages this core data. The project will use components of Agile and traditional project management methodologies. The project will likely include system security implementation, retrofitting and redesigning integrations, configuring user interfaces and workflows, improving the course and curriculum approval and publication business processes, and managing the change across all five campuses of the University of Minnesota.
The successful candidate will demonstrate good listening skills, attention to detail, and time management skills.
Business Process Analysis (45%)
Discover, analyze, and document Catalog & Curriculum Management and Degree Planning business processes.
Work with the project team, business leadership, and project governance to develop systematic business process analysis practices that can be scaled.
Map business processes and write clear and user-focused information based on the stakeholder’s needs.
Analyze existing data, data practices, and document connections between data practices and business objectives.
Perform gap analysis between existing functionality and new functionality in the context of desired business objectives.
Work with stakeholders to establish consistent best practices to meet business objectives efficiently.
Develop and implement change management tactics to encourage curricular data management practices that improve the student and advisor degree planning experience.
Help make plans to configure the new system to fill gaps and meet expanded business objectives.
Document configuration options in non-technical language so that business owners can fully understand business choices and set priorities.
Provide a customer-centric voice on a dynamic and evolving implementation team.
System Analysis / Implementation (45%)
Understand the relationships between curriculum-related systems, including PeopleSoft, Program & Curricular Approval System (PCAS), Electronic Course Authorization System (ECAS), Academic Progress Audit System (APAS), Student Degree Progress (SDP), and the Stellic Planner.
Learn the features of the upgraded software.
Learn the features and tables of the upgraded software and it’s integration targets.
Learn the new system’s data structures, the University technical ecosystem, and support effective data integrations.
Work with team leadership and vendor(s) to coordinate technical and business implementation.
Work to ensure accuracy and consistency of the data within the technical ecosystem.
Map updated business processes into forms with workflows.
Assist project manager/team in the development of test plans and scripts
Execute system tests, ID defects, help solve problems
Contribute in the delivery of improvements to the student experience, business processes, and technical architecture.
Professional Development (10%)
Continue to develop technical and subject matter expertise.
Stay current on best practices and technology advancements.
BA/BS degree and two years work experience analyzing and improving business processes and/or systems with a related degree, or four years analyzing and improving business processes and/or systems with a non-related degree.

Experience writing documentation and procedures which address user needs.
