The Research Center for Group Dynamics (RCGD) in the Institute for Social Research (ISR) at the University of Michigan is seeking applications for a full-time, term limited Research Area Specialist Associate position to work and collaborate with Dr. Elizabeth Roberts on the NESTSMX project, Water, Public Trust and Health in Mexico City. RCGD is a unique, world-renowned social science research center that conducts investigator-initiated research on theoretical and applied problems of social and scientific importance.
As an Ethnographic Coordinator, you will join a diverse research team that is exploring water quality, public trust and health in Mexico City neighborhoods.
Joining this NESTMX research team will help you build skills in data management, survey design, ethnographic data analysis, publication coordination and supervision.
Under the direction of the project’s Principal Investigators (PIs), the Ethnographic Coordinator will engage in the following:
Data Science: assist with data processing, and development/refinement of ethnographic data and analyses, set priorities for emerging patterns in field data
Research: support ethnographic data collection with research team in Mexico City, and prepare statistical reports by conducting reviews of current research, analyzing data, and writing summaries of field research findings.
Publications: develop and prepare presentations, posters and publications with support of the PI, prepare material for publication to be shared with UM research team and INSP
Coordinate grant writing with Graduate students and INSP
The selected candidate will need to possess the following:
The ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with strong project management skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to exercise sound judgment.
Exceptional time management skills with a proven ability to multitask and prioritize to successfully complete projects on tight deadlines with little supervision.
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with one or more years of relevant work experience in Ethnographic methods, with a strong background in social theory preferred.
Proven ability in Atlas.ti, or similar software
Fluent in conversational Spanish, proficient in reading and interpreting written scientific reports in Spanish, ability to translate Spanish to English for publications
Previous experience in producing publications, reports, posters and publications
Demonstrated ability, or previous experience successfully working in diverse cultures and socio-economic populations
Previous Ethnographic experience in a foreign country, preferably in a Spanish speaking country is encouraged
Knowledge of daily life Mexico or having lived in Mexico preferred
