About the Department:
University Information is a unit within the Office of Communications in Communications and Marketing focused on providing university information and visitor services, connections to resources, and internal communication about George Mason University.
The Office of Communications and Marketing is responsible for telling the Mason story. Relying on a team of highly skilled communicators, marketing, and event professionals, the department builds awareness and support for the university, develops the brand, protects the reputation of the university and shares important and timely information with the Mason community and its external partners.
The Fairfax Information Coordinator is a variable hour position, supervising up to 35 student wage staff, who provide top quality customer service as representatives of George Mason University to provide information and resources with the internal and external community. This position coordinates the hiring, scheduling, training, performance expectations, evaluating, and retention of staff.
The Information Coordinator will supervise day-to-day operations of the university switchboard and Fairfax Campus information desks, ensuring supplies and resources are available. This position is a vital pipeline for information between staff, supervisors, and university colleagues. This position may provide additional coverage for high traffic events and in emergency situations. The coordinator will also work with the university's phone vendor partner to report service concerns and make recommendations for improvements.
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Experience providing and reinforcing exceptional customer service standards;
The ability to research and quickly understand/distill communication needs;
Demonstrated supervisory experience;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Word, and general computer use.
Experience in higher education that shows an understanding of university resources;
Skill and interest in one or more of the following competencies:
Microsoft Access database data collection and query use;
Drupal or Wordpress web design;
Specialized software for event scheduling, phone network, or graphic design.
