The Department of Chemistry at Columbia University invites applications for the position of Staff Associate I to begin July 1, 2021. Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and 1-2 years of research experience in the area of synthetic biology. During this appointment period, the Staff Associate will be working on developing a yeast biosensor for SARS-CoV-2 in the Cornish Laboratory. Under the supervision of the PI and Cornish lab postdocs, the incumbent will work within assigned guidelines to conduct experiments in synthetic biosensor development, such as mutagenesis, directed evolution, screenings, molecular cloning, protein characterization, yeast strain characterization, as well as other activities related to the intellectual life of the Cornish Laboratory and Professor Cornish. The Staff Associate will collaborate with other members of the Cornish lab, sharing relevant information and data with colleagues, and periodically presenting findings at lab meetings.
