Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage equipment moves, inventory (schedule tagging with UNC Charlotte fixed assets), repairs, preventative maintenance scheduling, quotes, and invoices.
Assist Department Administration with budgeting by providing contracts and quotes for lab instruments & maintenance
Provide department administration information for ordering and inventory for consumables and reagents
Set up new equipment and instruments (find space, schedule installs, quotes, coordinate timelines).
Coordinating and scheduling training on new instruments, and attending training
Initiating and coordinating instrument relocations, within building or to surplus.
Project planning for principal investigators and their collaborators such as PCR, Sanger sequencing, MiSeq sequencing, NextSeq 2000 sequencing, Nanopore & Promethion sequencing, 10X sample prep, next gen library prep, DNA extractions, RNA extractions.
Monitor freezer/refrigerator alarms, respond in-person during regular business hours.
Attend building planning/construction meetings, such as 4th floor planning meetings.
Be the point of contact for the labs, especially for repairs, looking for equipment or reagents, troubleshooting, or setting up new resources (AirGas tank, autoclaves, etc.)
Maintain records of laboratory work performed.
Maintain good working relationship with vendors and service personnel, along with other UNCC departments, such as Facilities, Building Environmental Services (BES), Environment Health & Safety (EHS), Biosafety, Purchasing, etc.
Work with EHS and Biosafety offices to ensure building and labs meet/exceed standards.
Manage biohazard waste pickup for department areas, and individual PI labs upon request.
Attend laboratory-related meetings, such as Laboratory Research quarterly meetings.
Attended Facilities planning meetings for construction updates, such as power outages that would affect Bioinformatics.
Maintain training of self, members of the department, and collaborators as needed.
Be present for inspections in department labs.
Check DI water tanks and UV irradiation unit for alarms on weekly basis.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college; or an equivalent combination of training and/or related experience.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four-year college and 1 year of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and/or related experience.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Ability to review literature and revise papers with respect to evolving scientific knowledge. Abiliy to troubleshoot experiments, modify protocols based on interpretation of data.
