Overview The University Equity Officer serves as a resource in the development of inclusive programs, practices, and services at Touro University California (TUC). The individual must understand the mission of the University and have strong collaboration and presentation skills. The University Equity Officer will need to manage multiple projects; develop and maintain collaborative working relationships across the University and provide innovative professional development programing in a dynamic environment. The Equity Officer must be results oriented and organized with attention to detail. The role is expected to collaborate with academic programs and University departments to support student, staff, and faculty success by offering trainings, services, individual assistance, and resources.
The Equity Officer collaborates with University administrators, faculty, staff and students to support students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds and helps promote the University's vision for diversity and Equity. The Equity Officer will work with the TUC Council on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the development and implementation of University-wide diversity and inclusive programming and initiatives aligned with the University's strategic goals and the work of the TUC Commission on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
This position serves as a resource and supports Admissions and recruitment and academic learning support activities. This position will work with the Student Government Association (SGA) Diversity and Equity Committee and other university student groups to engage with the administration in dialogue and the development and implementation of initiatives to continue the growth of student-centered educational excellence.
This position will work with Human Resources to engage the faculty and staff in ongoing professional development in diversity and inclusion best practices. This position will have duties in Title IX, employee relations, employee trainings, and restorative mediation.
The position coordinates, and/or performs work with confidential matters and is expected to maintain appropriate confidences and work in an environment with a high degree of trust and integrity. The University Equity Officer must enjoy a fast paced, flexible environment with a focus on high quality individual and group interactions, verbal and written communications and presentations.
Responsibilities Recurring Tasks:
Identify the academic, developmental, and equity needs of TUC underrepresented student populations, including but not limited to, students of color, first generation students, and LGBTQIA+ students. Collaborate with the Director of Student Success to develop and implement programs and services to address these needs in order to ensure student success.
Collaborate and participate with the TUC Council on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the assessment and prioritization of campus needs, setting goals and working towards accomplishing the goals.
Collaborate and participate with the Office of Institutional Research and the Council on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the creation and implementation of evaluation metrics to assess and demonstrate program success. This will include but not be limited to assessing the effectiveness of programs and services, tracking appointment statistics, records and making referrals to other TUC resources as appropriate
Support the development and implementation of grant proposals related to diversity and inclusion
Assist the Director of Admissions to assess and report on admissions data for trends in race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, marital status, disability, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, etc. of applicants, matriculated students and those applicants who decline admissions as well as for any barriers to admissions
Assist the Director of Admissions with recruitment and development of MOUs with academic institutions that will grow a pipeline of diverse and equity student applicants
Function as a Student Affairs team member and participate collegially and cooperatively with key stakeholders across the university, including students, SGA, senior administrators, faculty, student affairs, employers and alumni in the community.
Function as a Human Resources team member and participate collegially and cooperatively to engage faculty and staff in ongoing professional development in diversity and inclusion best practices, Title IX trainings, employee relations, and restorative mediation practices.
Serve as a designated Campus Security Authority and Responsible Employee under the Clery Act and Title IX regulations, respectively
Duties in Title IX, employee relations, employee trainings, and restorative mediation as assigned by HR
Participate in the planning and implementation of university major events such as, but not limited to, new student orientation and commencement.
Participate in university committee service.
Other duties may be assigned, including but not limited to serving on committees, work groups, etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
This position may supervise the following positions if funding and resources become available and are approved through the annual budget process work study funded student assistants and/or peer advisors/mentors.
Bachelors degree required (masters preferred) in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Human Resources or related field.
Demonstrated experience in academic support, collaborative diversity and inclusion program development, professional development training
Ability to work independently or collaboratively as the situation demands; managing competing priorities in a professional and positive manner.
Experience working with graduate and/or first professional degree students is desired
Experience working in restorative justice is desired
Strong listening and interpersonal relationship skills
Possess strong analytical abilities with an ability to be an ethical decision maker
Be solutions oriented with strong conflict resolution skills
Ability to create and maintain collaborative and productive work relationships
Ability to implement successful practices in services and professional development.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
High level of conceptual and organizational skills; must be detail-oriented and accurate
Ability to provide innovative services directly to graduate students, faculty, and staff across a variety of disciplines and departments
Proficient in submitting data for institutional reports as well as be highly skilled and adept in using Excel and Microsoft Office Suite and other similar types of office software program(s).
Demonstrated experience working independently on complex, ongoing projects with minimal supervision.
