Under supervision, performs laboratory services related to specialized specimen processing and assist in the design and implementation of new protocols.
This position will operate under the Biomarker Core Lab Assistant Scientist to perform biomarker lab activities such as assay development, validation, sample analysis and all other activities required to facilitate ongoing operations of the laboratory. This individual will perform advanced laboratory methods related to specialized specimen processing and assist in the design and implementation of new biomarker assays for the Biomarker Core lab.
Responsibilities include: working with the supervisor and study coordinators in the Indiana University Genetics biobank to determine specific sample processing requirements from multiple studies; performing data acquisition, verifying quality of results. This individual has responsibility to ensure that biomarker samples are processed according to specified protocols, are handled according to regulations and that sample integrity is never compromised and to ensure that the laboratory processes these samples accurately and in a timely manner.
Perform advanced and specialized laboratory procedures in the Biomarker Core Lab. Procedures include, but are not limited to, sample accessioning into the Biomarker Core Lab, sample processing, ELISA method development, assay validation, standard operating procedures related to ongoing method performance, quality assurance, sample analysis, and data reporting. Routine maintenance, use, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment such as Tecan Fluent, Quanterix Simoa-HDx and Mesoscale discovery. Expected to design, modify and maintain appropriate documentation of all laboratory activities.
Track samples, which are accessioned, into the Biomarker Core Lab. Maintain chain of custody tracking thru sample storage locations while processing. This individual has the primary responsibility to ensure that sample documentation is reviewed, sample labeling/identification is confirmed, and data entry into the Biomarker Core lab information management system is complete and accurate.
This position will assist in the development of technical SOPs and will assist with the creation of the work flow sheets for protocol specific processing. They will support implementation of new SOPs and comply with all established SOPs. Actively participate in SOP revisions in coordination with the Quality Assurance and Assistant Scientist, and the Biorepository Operations Manager.
Must meet one of the following qulaifications:
Bachelor's degree and one year of laboratory experience OR
Master's degree and six months laboratory experience.

Proficient communication skills. Maintains a high degree of professionalism. Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality.
Degree in biology, chemistry, or biotechnology.
Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
