Posting Summary: The Education for Persistence and Innovation Center (EPIC, epic.tc.columbia.edu/) at Teachers College, Columbia University directed by Dr. Xiaodong Lin-Siegler is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Scientist to work with a small group of scholars with interdisciplinary background investigators predictors of motivation, effort investment and success at job.
Job Summary/Basic Function: The incumbent will help lead a research project on predictors of employees’ investment and success in their work. The position comes with a research fund to conduct studies in the US and other countries.
Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities:
Review and write up analysis of research literature on motivation, personal goals, job performance, learning from failures, decision making and judgments, etc
Create and pilot measures of predictors of employees’ investment and success in their work
Develop semi-structured interviews that will explain the findings from the predictors
Conduct interviews of business managers and employees
Conduct data analysis of existing data as well as newly collected data
Publish the research findings in competitive research journals
Supervise Ph.D. students and college interns who will work on the project
Responsible for IRB and other required procedures for data collection
Ph.D. or be on schedule to obtain one in cognition, cognitive development, motivation, social, organizational, or personality psychology
Passionate about understanding the achievement motivation and job performance research literatures
Skilled at creating revealing measures and data analysis
Knowledgeable about machine learning and related research techniques (although not required, but could be useful)
Good in interviewing skills
Effective in supervising graduate students working on the
Able to work in groups effectively
Effective communicator and information seeking
