Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Department of Pharmacology within Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist V position, under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Laboratory Manager or Research Teaching Specialist I, is to perform research activities requiring the application of standard techniques and procedures. This includes designing and executing cutting edge experiments investigating the role of mTOR kinase in growth control and anticancer mechanisms as directed.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
As directed, performs various research and technical operations relative to the ongoing investigatory activities of the laboratory in the area of the role of mTOR kinase in growth control and anticancer mechanisms, including cell culture and mouse experiments.
Participates in the evaluation of existing procedures, suggesting revisions where necessary, and proposing new procedures where required.
Assists with training fellows, graduate students, and lab technicians in laboratory techniques as directed.
Responsible for submitting purchase recommendations to the supervisor.
Ensures that laboratory equipment is maintained in good working order.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Prior related research experience in cell culture, mouse work, and molecular/cell biology techniques.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs, and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
