Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, a National Cancer Institute Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, seeks applications at the Associate Professor/Professor level for the Director for the Biospecimen Repository and Histopathology (BRHS) Shared Resource (SR). A tenure-track position with a competitive research package available for the right candidate. The academic appointment will be in the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School with a resident faculty appointment at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The Director is responsible for the overall operation of the BRHS SR, including operations for the consenting of patients to CINJ banking protocols and other research studies, the targeted collection & distribution of biospecimens for IRB-approved research studies, PBMC isolation, and standard histology assays. More specialized services such as the PDL1-22C3 PharmDx assay and patient-derived organoids are also offered. The Director is responsible for maintaining the laboratory's operations according to its CAP and CLIA certifications. The Director supports multidisciplinary and evolving science at the Rutgers Cancer Institute, under the guidelines of the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant program announcement. The Director's goals involve the expansion of services, updating of equipment with cutting edge instruments that improve quality, output, reduce costs and increase in revenue from extramural sources via the chargeback mechanism. Funds to update equipment have already been allocated. The SR includes 15 faculty and staff with a cumulative effort of over 13 FTE. As such, the Director must demonstrate a history of successful management focused on continuous improvement. Oversight of BRHS is led by the Associate Director of SRs and dedicated SR administrators. The Director interacts with the administrative team frequently, including for the preparation of the annual advisory committee meeting, and is tasked with identifying publications and research grant awards supported by the SR.
Faculty are expected to support the educational goals and activities of the School, and as such will be expected to be involved in teaching activities for medical students and residents as well as targeted lectures in their area of expertise. Minimum Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate should be the Principal investigator of an NCI R01 award or the overall Director a Pathology Core that actively collects samples as part of a program project grant (P50, P01, or equivalent). The presence of a long history of independent extramural funding, national collaborations, and publications as the corresponding author in high-impact factor journals is highly desired. Experience with leading a similar core in an NCI-designated Cancer Center is desirable. Experience with Universal Consent regulations is considered a plus. An MD and/or PhD degree is required.
