We need a research technician associate to work in the Research Program on Cognition and Neuromodulation Based Interventions as part of a study team investigating memory rehabilitation in older adults and those in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. The emphasis of this research position is on the administration of cognitive testing, structured memory rehabilitation, and non-invasive brain stimulation. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with fMRI and PET acquisition and data analysis as determined appropriate by the Research Program Director. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with faculty and staff in lab management.
The candidate will be able to operate in a semi-independent manner to assist in clinical research and related projects. It is also expected that the successful candidate will be able to administer and score standardized neuropsychological tests to research participants, memory rehabilitation, and non-invasive brain stimulation. Opportunities to lead or assist with the creation of posters, papers, and presentations for scientific meetings may be available for some individuals. The candidate will handle other scientific administration and clerical activities as directed to support research projects.
Ideal candidates will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Psychology or Neuroscience equivalent education and experience. Proficiency in test administration and scoring is preferred. Knowledge of or experience with database creation, management and analysis procedures is expected. Strong clinical skills and superior verbal and written communication are desired. Experience in working with older adults is preferred. Candidates must have demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and preferably statistical analysis packages such as SAS and SPSS or other research laboratory programs. Experience with fMRI analysis is highly desirable
Administer, score, and record neuropsychological tests.
Administer memory rehabilitation and transcranial electrical stimulation.
Enter data into secure database.
Transport participants, as necessary, to support study needs.
Participate in team conferences related to research and program conduct and development.
Act as liaison with other study teams.
Assist in training team members.
Creates source documents for accurate tracking, collection, and recording of data.
Other duties as needed to support the Research Program Director and supported study(studies).
Team members are expected to work well in a team setting, but also independently when appropriate and regularly exercise good judgment in setting priorities, resolving operational problems, and applying policies, procedures, and methods, while maintaining the strictest of confidentiality at all times.
Recruit and screen study participants.
Bachelor's Degree or higher preferably in Psychology, health science or health related field
Prior research experience
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Excellent computer skills including proficiency in programming languages
Excellent organizational skills including the ability to multitask as well as work well under time constraints and deadlines
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and with diverse teams of people in a diplomatic, collaborative and effective manner
Confident and highly motivated
Outstanding organizational and record-keeping skills with meticulous attention to detail
Ability to problem-solve and establish timelines and priorities
Available to work evenings and weekends as necessary to support the program
Must have reliable transportation since local travel will be expected
Experience working and interacting with research participants
Experience with neuroimaging or programming languages
Demonstrated understanding of Good Clinical Practice and HIPAA
Working knowledge of medical terminology and assessment of laboratory values
SOCRA and other relevant certifications
Experience working with older adults and Veterans
Typical schedule is M-F 8am – 4:30pm but some mornings, evenings, and weekends will be needed to support study needs.
