The Director, Investigations, Policies and Monitoring will lead the investigation of compliance matters and reported events, the policy administration process, and the Office of Compliance and Privacy (OCP) reporting and training teams. This leader will develop recommendations regarding incidents and events, and independently conduct assessments of potential or actual compliance incidents on behalf of the Office of Compliance and Privacy.
Responsibilities to include:
Leads the internal investigation of compliance issues, evaluates practices versus current policies and laws, and recommend solutions to reduce risks.
Coordinates the investigation of all hotline cases received from the LDO's office among all of the appropriate Health and Health Sciences areas.
Leads the Policy and Training team within OCP (3 FTEs)
Leads the Reporting and Monitoring team within OCP (4 FTEs)
Leads the Regulatory Compliance Committee to orchestrate appropriate monitoring of key compliance risk areas across UC San Diego Health.
Responsible for information management, storage, retrieval, issue tracking, and summary reports.
Represents the Office of Compliance and Privacy, as requested, during investigation meetings, committee, policy meetings and other meetings based on organizational needs.
Other duties as assigned.
The position collaborates frequently with UC San Diego Health staff, faculty and persons in other organizational departments and persons outside the University that will require professional and independent judgment, knowledge of standards and best practices, and counseling to resolve a wide range of compliance issues.
As a recognized privacy and compliance expert, applies comprehensive knowledge of professional concepts and industry practices to evaluate all aspects of the privacy program and suggest improvements to data management, documentation processes, and health system policies to ensure all departments maintain compliance regarding privacy of patient health information.
Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration or related area, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
Master's degree or equivalent training and experience in a healthcare compliance setting.
Seven (7+) or more years of relevant experience, including investigating compliance issues in healthcare and/or health sciences settings.
Experience with and advanced knowledge of current HIPAA regulations, state medical and public agency privacy laws, and medical center and UC procedures.
Expert knowledge of the clinical and operational issues regarding compliance and assessing risk.
JD or other relevant advanced degree
Certified in Healthcare Compliance
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
