POSITION SUMMARY: The Dining Manager oversees front-line staff and daily operations of three Pomona College Dining Halls (Frary, Frank, and Oldenborg). In collaboration with the Executive Chef and Sous Chef/Managers, this position ensures that the Dining Halls are properly cleaned, stocked and staffed during each meal period. The Dining Manager is responsible for the direction and executive oversight of approximately 35 employees, including, Stock Workers, Custodial Utility Workers, Utility Workers, and Cashiers, and all of the activities and services provided by them in Dining Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the General Manager Dining Services, the Dining Manager works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities: Collaborate with the General Manager, Executive Chef and Sous Chef/Managers to oversee the daily operations of three Pomona College Dining Halls (Frary, Frank, and Oldenborg), to ensure that the Dining Halls are properly cleaned, stocked and staffed during each meal period, and to ensure compliance with safe food handling practices and the highest level of food quality and customer service is provided for the Pomona College community. Oversee the collection of cash and charge receipts by cashiers: Provide clear direction and oversight of all dining room activities in order to develop and achieve annual goals, including budgeting, planning and staff development. Responsible for monitoring and evaluating direct reports, and overall staff performance and daily assignments. Maintain an efficient, collegial, and proactive work environment within the dining room and collaborating departments. Must be California ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certified, and successfully recertify every 5 years.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Bachelor’s degree in business management, food services or hospitality is preferred. Must take and successfully pass California ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification within 30 days of hire and successfully recertify every 5 years. A valid driver’s license is essential to drive College-owned vehicles. A minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience with increasing responsibility in food services, restaurant and hospitality is required. Experience at an academic institution is preferred.
REQUIRED HOURS: This is a 40 hour per week position that will operate on a varied schedule. The schedule will include day, evening, weekend and Holiday schedules. Travel may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
