A full-time Program Manager is sought to lead administration of our intensive care unit (ICU) research group, which spans two Columbia-affiliated hospitals. This is a leadership and supervisory position that will work closely with the research director / principal investigator for our program to ensure proper and successful conduct of all aspects of the research program.
We perform clinical-translational research in patients with respiratory and other organ failures. An overarching goal of our research is to develop strategies to individualize respiratory support to maximize lung protection and improve patient outcomes.
The program manager will lead administration and coordination of single-site studies and multicenter clinical trials, including both industry- and federally-sponsored studies for which Columbia is a participating site. The manager also will be expected to lead administration of national multicenter studies run by Columbia investigators. Candidates must be comfortable working with critically ill adult patients on life support, the population of focus for most studies. Research populations include participants with COVID-19. Ability to perform high-quality and detail-oriented work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet hard deadlines, and work independently are essential skills.
Responsible for on-boarding, training, and delegating study tasks to new hires, volunteers, and trainees (including students and physicians in training) within our group.
Supervise the aforementioned multidisciplinary staff to ensure timely completion of studies and adherence to study protocols.
Plan and lead administrative work meetings on study logistics and progress.
Implement standardized processes that improve the efficiency of workflows and ensure compliance with study protocols, CUIMC policies and federal regulations.
Assist in grant preparation and serve as a liaison with CUIMC research offices.
Manage the Center???s finances in partnership with the Research Director / Principal Investigator.
Screen and coordinate consent approach for trials, and assist with data entry for studies
Provide reports to and interact with federal regulators, research sponsors, and other external agencies.
Ensure preparedness for audits in the areas of regulatory compliance and patient safety.
Oversee and perform quality control on data entry for our teams as well as participating study sites.
Oversee inventory and maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as needed.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience, plus four years of related experience
Master???s degree in public health, administration, or other research related area would substitute in part for experience
Prior experience as a coordinator or manager for a clinical research program recruiting acutely ill hospitalized patients for interventional studies
Prior experience overseeing research regulatory processes
Prior experience in team leadership
Clinical medical degree, such as medical doctorate, registered nurse, physician???s assistant, or similar
Familiarity with critical care medicine
Participation in the medical surveillance program
Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
