Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) is committed to providing quality care to those in the community. The SCCA Oncology Pharmacy team provides extensive pharmaceutical care to inpatient and ambulatory patients. In addition to direct care, pharmacists participate in drug therapy consults, conduct clinical research protocols, provide patient/family/staff education, and precept pharmacy students and residents. SCCA combines the adult and pediatric oncology patient care services of three world-renowned cancer care institutions UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Seattle Children's Hospital.
SCCA has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME LEAD INFUSION PHARMACIST - OUTPATIENT INFUSION (Day Shifts). The Lead Infusion Pharmacist (Pharmacist 4) will assist the SCCA Pharmacy Operations Manager in directing the daily pharmacy workflow, training and developing staff, and acting as the primary pharmacy point of contact for continuous performance improvement efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assist the Pharmacy Operations Manager with the following: o Oversight of day-to-day SCCA SLU Infusion Pharmacy operations and active resolution of issues (including occasional after-hours issues) o Planning, developing, organizing, and evaluating SCCA SLU Infusion Pharmacy services • Collaborate with outside pharmacies, SCCA Materials Management, Fred Hutch Facilities/Engineering, and the Investigational Drug Services pharmacy team, Clinical Pharmacy team, Pyxis team, and Community Site pharmacy teams • Serve as the SCCA SLU Infusion Pharmacy liaison and communicate updates and major changes to pharmacy staff/leadership, nursing leadership, and other departments as applicable • Develop, review, and update policies, procedures, and pharmacy reference binders for the SCCA SLU Infusion Pharmacy, including maintenance of the Non-Chemotherapy Reference Chart • Assist the SCCA Informatics Pharmacist with the following: o Maintaining appropriate computer operations and other automation systems for the SCCA SLU Infusion Pharmacy o Validating pharmacy labels as applicable o Generating and analyzing reports as applicable • Assist the SCCA Purchasing team with the following: o Determining PAR levels based on average dose parameters and past/future usage o Drug shortage/recall management • Operationalize roll-out of medications that are new to the market and/or SCCA SLU Infusion Pharmacy o Review literature to clarify medication preparation questions and/or concerns and contact drug manufacturers if necessary • Actively participate on committees and meetings as assigned, including, but not limited to, the Chemotherapy Reference Chart Committee, Formulary Workflow Committee, Medication Emergency Readiness Committee (MERC), SCCA Purchasing Team Meeting, Medication Safety Meeting, Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee (ad hoc), Weekly IV Meeting, Daily IV Room Huddle, and Infusion Nursing-Pharmacy Meeting • Assist in developing safe medication practices to prevent errors and consult on medication safety events (PSNs) as needed • Serve as back-up for Pyxis refill checks as needed
Personnel: • Serve as the primary trainer and ensure pharmacy staff development, coordinate new employee orientation/training and ongoing training of national quality assurance standards and regulations in coordination with pharmacy management for all pharmacists that staff in the infusion pharmacy • Develop and maintain training materials for infusion pharmacy staff • Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and evaluation of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Interns as applicable to the SCCA pharmacy • Assist with personnel performance reviews and the development and retention of competent personnel in coordination with the Pharmacy Operations Manager • Assist pharmacy management in coordination of the infusion pharmacist schedule and serve as the primary point of contact for coordination of coverage for pharmacist sick calls • Serve as 1st line of coverage for SCCA SLU Infusion Pharmacy staffing coverage
Regulatory: • In conjunction with operations manager, coordinate the documentation and reporting of program activities and quality assurance for regulatory and accreditation agencies
Other: • Perform the duties of a Pharmacist 2 - SCCA / Outpatient Infusion • Comply with all state and federal pharmacy laws • Perform related duties as assigned
