Tufts University School of Dental Medicine seeks candidates for the position of Chair in the Department of Public Health and Community Service, at the Associate Professor or Professor level and the Delta Dental of Massachusetts Professorship in Public Health and Community Service
The Chair is expected to demonstrate administrative and leadership experience, including supervision of faculty and staff, performance management, goal setting, financial planning, as well as curriculum development. The ideal candidate will possess distinguished teaching and research experience and previous experience in the development and management of extramural programs. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate a vision for innovative approaches to pre-doctoral dental education and have highly developed academic leadership skills, outstanding academic credentials and have established a significant professional reputation.
The Chair will be responsible for development, supervision and overall leadership to the Department of Public Health and Community Service, as well as establishing collaboration across TUSDM departments. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and general oversight of the School’s community-based education and service programs, including clinical sites, outreach activities, and the externship program; revision and implementation of the predoctoral and postgraduate didactic curricula and mentoring students interested in public health. The Chair will also have an oversight of instruction in biostatistics and epidemiology and an oversight of a combined DMD/MPH program at the school.
In addition, the Chair will develop, supervise, and provide overall administrative support to the division heads of the following areas: Education, Outreach and Advocacy; Geriatrics; Medicine; Oral Medicine and Research; Nutrition and Oral Health Promotion; General Practice Residency/Advanced Education in General Dentistry; Special Care including Tufts Dental Facilities for Persons with Special Needs (TDF). The Chair will assess the performance of the division heads, including management of their division operations, faculty and staff. The Chair will also provide direction and assess performance of the faculty and staff under his/her direct supervision.
The Chair will develop and maintain a research portfolio that is consistent with the School’s and the University’s strategic plans (to include big data and health equity and access to care). The Chair will be expected to mentor students, participate in faculty development programs, serve on committees and accept other assignments from time to time at the request of the Dean.
The Chair will develop and maintain relationships with Public Health and Community Departments and organizations in the State, serving as an advocate for oral health.
