The Rutgers University Libraries seeks a proactive, collaborative, and user-centered librarian for this non-tenure track position based in the John Cotton Dana Library. The position will report to the Associate University Librarian – Newark and will work closely with the School of Criminal Justice (SCJ) Dean and the School's Library Committee and its diverse community of faculty, students, and staff. The Criminal Justice Librarian will place a particular emphasis on reference, instruction and collection development activities that will contribute to the academic success of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in SCJ programs. This position will oversee the Gottfredson Library collection, widely regarded as one of the leading collections of criminal justice materials in the world. As a member of the Rutgers University Libraries faculty, the selected candidate will provide general reference and instruction services to the broader University community. The position responsibilities include the following:
Serve as the subject liaison for the SCJ, providing library instruction, research assistance and in-depth consultations for criminal justice-related research,
Provide a full range of reference services to the University community and participate in the information literacy activities of Dana Library delivering information literacy instruction to ENG 101 & 102 classes.
Oversee the acquisition, retention, and maintenance of the Gottfredson Library resources in multiple formats, including monographs and a highly specialized grey literature database.
Engage with the SCJ administration, faculty, students and the larger community through educational and outreach activities to promote programs and services such as the Gottfredson Library Fellows visiting scholar program.
Contribute to the strategic direction and initiatives of the SCJ, Rutgers University – Newark and the Rutgers University Libraries system.
Perform related duties as assigned.
This non-tenure track position is a member of the Dana Library Faculty, a team of librarians dedicated to providing first-rate public services to a diverse community of users within the University community and beyond. As part of the Dana faculty, the selected candidate will provide instruction, and information services via multiple modalities. This position may require working evenings and weekends. The successful candidate will be driven, ambitious, and dedicated to continuous professional development.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution. The successful candidate should exhibit excellent interpersonal communication skills; the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty and staff; the ability to build fruitful relationships and partnerships; and, be knowledgeable in the subject matter. An academic background in criminal justice or experience as a Criminal Justice liaison is preferred. A demonstrated determination to fostering diversity as an organizational priority is required. Candidates who have had successful experience in the design and delivery of engaging learning activities and services for diverse populations will be given preference.
