Farm Manager needed to establish an operational organic farm to provide products to Davidson College’s Dining Services. Oversee the day to day operations of the organic farm. Manage and maintain communications with customers, faculty, staff and students to enhance the College’s knowledge and appreciation for sustainable and organic farming.
1. Coordinate the day to day operations of the farm including but not limited to:
-ordering and purchase of seeds and fertilizer; -seed propagation and direct seeding; -establishment of crop rotations; -planting; -cover cropping; -organic fertilization; -pest and weed management; -composting; -irrigation operation and repair; -harvesting -preparation of goods for delivery; -product packaging; -storage of produce; -coordination of delivery to Dining Services
2. Provide accurate and efficient fiscal and budgetary management of farm operations. Tasks will include successful documentation and record-keeping of accounts payable, invoicing, payments received, expense allocations and purchases, product delivery, and delivery receipt as well as other records and data tracking as assigned
3. Coordinate, facilitate and maintain relationships with the following: -Dining Services - product availability and product delivery scheduling (purchasing agent and/or chefs); -Faculty – for teaching, experiments, research and tours; -Students and Staff– extracurricular activities and volunteer opportunities
4. Develop, coordinate and provide direction for part-time labor in planting, harvesting and other work as the seasons require
HS/GED; One to three years farming crops organically required. Experience working with students in a farming environment strongly preferred.
