About the Opportunity: Reporting to the Associate Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life within the Center for Student Involvement, the Fraternity and Sorority Life Specialist (Specialist) serves as a member of the Center for Student Involvement team and participates in the development, enrichment and assessment of the university's vibrant and diverse Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) community. This position is one of three staff who support the FSL community at Northeastern.
Responsibilities: The incumbent is responsible for strategically enhancing the fraternal community and partners with the Associate Director to serve in an advisoryrole to the four governing councils and chapters that comprise these councils. Advisement to these groups requires but is not limited to: developing missions and accomplishing goals, developing group leadership trainings in conjunction with the Center's leadership staff, ensuring grade compliance and following expansion and recruitment procedures.
This position is essential in providing a forum for fraternity and sorority members to discuss fraternal values, risk management, and social justice. The Specialist will support and oversee the program initiatives, community service efforts and philanthropy of these organizations. The Specialist will play a major role in coordinating the FSL Summit, Greek Week, Stepfest, FSL 101, and other FSL signature programs. As a member of the collaborative Center for Student Involvement team, the Specialist will possess a commitment to all programs and events that originate within the Center and will provide support to colleagues in the implementation of various signature programs. As a member of a collaborative unit, the Specialist will also provide support for the various leadership programs that are coordinated by Center staff.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in higher education/student affairs or equivalent is preferred. Minimum up to two years experience in student activities, major event management and fraternity/sorority life community development. Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience advising fraternal organizations. Desire to work at a fast-paced, global university is essential as is a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The successful candidate must have excellent problem-solving skills and exceptional interpersonal, organizational, verbal/written communication skills and knowledge of social media platforms and techniques. As a member of the Division of Student Affairs, the Specialist will align their work with the established mission, vision, and literacies of the division.
