This position, with a start date of July 2021 and under the direction of the Associate AD/Media Relations, is responsible for serving as the primary contact for Duquesne women’s basketball, women’s soccer, volleyball and men’s and women’s tennis. Applicants must be willing to work evenings and weekends as well as to engage in required travel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in planning and implementing communications strategies as they relate to the goals and objectives of Duquesne’s 17-sport Division I athletics programs.
Oversees media relations efforts for assigned programs. Communicates with coaching staffs and media to coordinate interviews, provide timely, accurate information and handles media needs before, during and after competition. Staffs home events and supervises the recording of accurate statistical information during events.
Provides timely content for the web including game recaps and previews. Reports game results, statistics, student-athlete award nominations, coaches' award nominations and other pertinent information to conference offices, coaches associations and the NCAA.
Develops an integrated brand marketing and communications plan that provides a strategic basis for the entire department, guiding both internal and external correspondence as well as public perception.
Monitors perceptions of Duquesne’s athletics programs and coordinates strategic messaging in conjunction with the marketing and branding department.
Works closely with marketing and branding to develop social media content with a strong focus on specific networks (Facebook, Instagram & Twitter).
Assists with hosting NCAA and Atlantic 10 Championship events.
Maintains a working knowledge of and adherence to NCAA, Atlantic 10, Northeast Conference and institutional rules and regulations. Communicates any possible infractions to the compliance staff.
Acts as a self-starter who works efficiently and is prepared to offer new and creative ways to conquer traditional tasks. Effectively prioritizes and multi-tasks. Utilizes strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills. Contributes to a positive department environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field from an accredited institution.
At least three years of experience in media relations, athletics communications, or sports information.
Master’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field from an accredited institution.
Alternately, the successful candidate will possess any equivalent combination or training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Attention to detail is a must.
Ability to create and update documents using Adobe InDesign.
Ability to create and update graphics using Adobe Photoshop.
Experience with the NCAA Genius statistical platform and ability to compile game statistics.
Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Basic graphic design experience and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud.
Knowledge of, and experience with, SIDEARM Sports web site client preferred.
The successful candidate must demonstrate strong organizational skills and an ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, administrative staff, parents, alumni and the University community.
Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as well as to engage in required travel.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
