The Classification and Compensation Consultant will support the ASOD’s mission through the development and implementation of policies, programs, and practices that attract, compensate, retain, and reward faculty and staff. The Classification and Compensation Consultant will serve as the subject matter expert for all SHRA and EHRA Non-Faculty positions, and will be responsible for making recommendations to supervisors and leadership on ways to improve structure, work distribution, and the use of employee skills. This position will support the growth of a positive workplace culture that promotes engaged leadership and supports the successful development and performance of faculty and staff. The Consultant will be working collaboratively with other team members on matters related to employee relations, faculty affairs, and/or recruitment. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - evaluate position descriptions and conduct unit assessments - consult with managers to prepare appropriate classification and reclassification documentation and advise throughout the review process - research and analyze competitive compensation practices in the job market - develop and maintain compensation plans for employees and salary structures for faculty - ensures compensation plans and practices are equitable, fair, and consistent - prepare salary requests and proposals and ensure information is accurate
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
The successful candidate must have experience in consulting with customers on classification and compensation. This position requires the ability to establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with customers; a thorough knowledge of Federal, State, University, and School regulations, policies, and procedures; and the ability to analyze HR issues and develop HR solutions that meet customer's needs and are consistent with regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, sound business judgment, a high level of detail and organization, professionalism, diplomacy, and the ability to interact with personnel at all levels of the School and University. Ability to work independently, be proactive, and multi-task is vital. Strong computer skills and ability to learn new technologies. Successful applicants will demonstrate a positive, highly professional and customer-oriented focus in the workplace.
Minimum of three years of professional-level experience in an environment of similar scope to the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. Experience in client consultation and some combination of the following human resources functions: Benefits Administration; Classification and Compensation; Employee Relations; Employment and Staffing; Faculty Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure. Experience using ConnectCarolina as a complex user.
