The Category Manager for Business Services is a key member of the Sourcing and Procurement team at Boston University. Major duties of this position include:
Manage and execute multiple simultaneous projects by forming and managing cross-functional commodity teams to develop robust business cases to support a sourcing strategy (RFI, RFQ, RFP, and/or process improvement), including evaluating proposals, selecting successful suppliers, and measuring product success
Utilize commodity expertise, spend data analytics, contract expiration data, and stakeholder input to develop annual, rolling category plan for assigned spend commodities
Build and manage internal business relationships by providing guidance and expertise on sourcing best practices, including supplier selection, industry insights, negotiation strategies and contracting
Work closely on communication and change management efforts associated with executed projects
Develop and manage a supplier performance program within the assigned indirect spend categories
Collaborate with the other Category Managers to direct the work of a Sourcing Specialist to ensure successful execution of multiple simultaneous category projects
B.A./B.S. in Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing or a related field
8+ years of relevant experience in procurement, commodity management, sales, or marketing preferably in higher education, nonprofit, public service, or private organization
Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage routine tasks, concurrent projects, and ad-hoc requests supporting multiple stakeholders
Results-driven with strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
Detail oriented, demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output
Advance skills utilizing Microsoft Office suite
Ability to work optimally and collaboratively in a small, collegial team environment
Self-motivated, proactive, intellectually curious
Masters degree or above in Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing or a related field plus 5 years relevant experience
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required. Experience with the full suite of SAP Ariba products is preferred.
