This project focuses on the utilization of low altitude high resolution remote sensing platforms such as drones for surveying wildlife in airport environments. The postdoctoral associate will support team of scientists working on individual and team research that falls under this broad umbrella. The role of the postdoctoral associate will be to assist with experimental design and data analysis such as image classification related to these research efforts. As such, the postdoctoral associate is expected to have a strong background in image analysis, image classification using deep neural networks. This is a one-year position with a potential of future funding.
1) Support interdisciplinary teams to develop study questions to address wildlife survey in diurnal and nocturnal situations. 2) Develop object classification methods using visible and thermal imagery using deep neural networks to meet the needs of research in collaboration with USDA Agricultural Research Services (ARS) scientists 3) Participate in oral and written communications, as needed, to interface with the participating scientists and stakeholders to obtain clarity in requirements 4) Other duties as assigned
The position will be located at the main campus of Mississippi State University. Salary commensurate with abilities and experience.

1) Doctoral Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, or other relevant disciplines 2) Motivation to advance personal and group knowledge 3) Positive attitude
ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):
1) Demonstrated leadership skills 2) Excellent written and oral communication skills 3) Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment 4) Ability to appropriately apply advanced image classification analysis such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs), support vector machines, spatial feature extraction using deep learning methods.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ideal candidate for this job will (listed in order of importance): 1) Have a strong background in image analysis and classification using CNNs 2) Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages like Python and experience using Matlab, and ArcMap. 3) Demonstrated proficiency in deep learning packages such as PyTorch, and Keras. 4) Work well in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment 5) Have some experience with web development.
