POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE , MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative/ MIT Climate Grand Challenge team- Natural Climate and Community Solutions (NCCS), to support the development of a white paper focused on protecting and enhancing natural carbon sinks, particularly tropical forests in the Amazon, the Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia. Responsibilities include developing a research plan and carrying out interviews and workshops with on-the-ground partners to identify needs and opportunities to apply emerging technologies to advance NCCS; gathering and analyzing information, including a literature review of the state of relevant knowledge on the drivers of deforestation, existing policies, technologies, and incentives for forest conservation, among others; managing the writing process according to the CGC guidelines and coordinating faculty and partner organizations; developing a problem definition, research outcomes, impact metrics, as well as risk, economic, and impact assessments, and a detailed roadmap for the implementation of the results; and coordinating the development of outreach materials.
REQUIRED : Ph.D. in environmental science or related field; experience publishing white papers, technical roadmaps, or review papers involving multiple collaborators; excellent leadership, project management, and verbal and written communication skills; and ability to keep deliverables on track, evaluating and revising as needed, and delivering high-quality results. PREFERRED : fluency in Spanish. Training and/or experience in the physical and social factors of environmental issues would be ideal.
