Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks an Instructional Designer who will collaborate with faculty in the design of high-quality courses aligned with college standards. This position will promote effective adoption of academic technologies to enhance student learning, identify training needs, create and deliver training for faculty and contribute to the culture of innovation, teaching excellence and collaboration across campus. The Instructional Designer will design multimedia enriched online and hybrid courses using Universal Design for Learning principles, accessibility standards and mobile learning. This position will report to the Director for Teaching & Learning Center for Excellence.

Collaborate with subject matter experts and identify target audience's training needs;
Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention, completion and transfer of CBC students;
Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts;
Apply tested instructional design theories, educational practices and instructional methods that complement student success;
Provide exercises and activities to faculty that enhance the learning process for students;
Maintain project documentation and course folders;
Provide resources and guidance as it relates to instructional end goals and assessment of those goals;
Work collaboratively with faculty, administration and instructional services to support strategic professional development resources, curriculum development and content creation;
Assist the Library, eLearning and Disability Support Services staff to ensure compliance of course materials and Learning Management System support;
Assist in the discovery, administration and delivery of educational technologies;
Apply project management skills to ensure timely course development and delivery;
Incorporate adult learning theory and best practices in instructional design, strategies and assessment into course development;
Assist in the review of courses, activities and assessments to ensure alignment with learning outcomes;
Research teaching and learning technology and best practices at the intersection of higher education and instructional design;
Maintain expertise in relevant emerging technologies; and
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in instructional design, educational technology, education, curriculum development or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
Demonstrated understanding of learning theory, instructional design standards, higher education/training and various delivery models; and
Experience using Learning Management Systems/learning platforms and e-learning tools.
Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, education, curriculum development or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
Experience as an instructional designer with hands-on learning and lab situations.
Columbia Basin College (CBC) serves the citizens of Benton and Franklin counties in Washington state with two-year associate degrees for transfer to a four-year university, and applied degrees for workforce employment. CBC also provides one-year certificates and basic skills for those pursuing a GED or high school diploma.
