Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Research Associate III for the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics within the New Jersey Medical School.
Under direction of the project leader, performs technical research activities that includes microscopy, cell biological, genetic, molecular, and biochemical support, as well as some rodent animal model work relevant to research projects.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
As directed, performs various research and technical operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of a laboratory; conducts specialized research for a particular phase of a project. Laboratory research requiring analysis of mouse tissues and application of standard cellular, molecular, biochemical, and animal husbandry procedures.
Under supervision, assists in the conducting of a research that uses microscopy, biochemistry, cell biology and genetics to move forward experiments that reveal gene expression in both mammalian hosts and infectious organisms.
Should have experience in conducting experiments involving rodents such as: tissue isolation, dissection, infections- both initiating and following infections by parasites.
Evaluates existing procedures, suggesting revisions where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.
Willing to work with laboratory chemicals that are standard components of a biochemical and molecular genetics laboratory. These include staining reagents, anesthesia reagents, liquid nitrogen, chemistry, serology, and histological fixatives.
Maintains necessary lab records, databases, and files as hard copies and computer files.
Designs and performs research experiments, compiles data, assists in data analysis and in preparation of materials for publications and reports.
Maintains and manages lab supplies.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.
