Reporting to the Departmental Administrator/CFO of the Department of Radiology, the Director will be responsible for the oversight of all coding and billing compliance activities within the department and Joint Venture.
Responsibilities include management of staff related to manual and electronic coding, charge capture, and associated denials and claim edit resolution.
Coordinate and monitor pre-billing transaction activities and processes.
Work with Revenue Cycle Director and outsourced vendors on resolving all claim related issues. Develop policies to support efficient revenue cycle processes.
Evaluate activities impacting all billing metrics, review trends and implement any corrective processes.
Develop methodology, implement, and monitor charge capture of research related billing activities.
Set-up new sites within EPIC and coding software. Work with teams to manage implementation and monitor pre and post activities.
Lead and/or participates in coding and billing improvement initiatives to maximize reimbursement and collections.
Work closely with outsourced vendor to establish efficient process with electronic AI coding. Monitor and implement any corrective actions.
Act as departmental liaison for all coding and billing compliance related activities within the school, hospital and with outsourced vendors.
Assess quality metrics and implement remediation measures or process recommendations.
Develop performance indicators and quality control reports including trend of non-compliance by payers. Work with contracting for corrective actions as needed.
Provide oversight and monitor all Compliance Assurance activities within the department. Implement all Columbia University and payor compliance guidelines, regulations, policies and recommendations.
Direct and supervise billing compliance staff and work closely with the outsourced vendors to ensure compliant activities.
Direct the implementation of the Universityâ€™s and the Department's compliance plans. Revise the departmental compliance plan annually.
Develop department specific compliance educational programs focused on the department's documentation, coding, and billing process.
Keep apprised of industry trends related to changes in coding and payor policies. Prepare and disseminate compliance information to departmental faculty and staff.
Develop and maintain departmental compliance log reporting of all compliance concerns and corrective action towards resolution with major concerns reported immediately.
Randomize quality control transaction reviews to assure adherence to documentation standards.
Develop monthly analytic reports based on the compliance activities within the department.
Assist with all other projects and related responsibilities as assigned.
Requires a bachelorâ€™s degree or equivalent in education and experience plus five years of related experience; Masterâ€™s degree preferred. Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is required. Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, supervisory, administrative, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Exceptional knowledge of physician billing and documentation requirements. Highly skilled in Excel is required. Ability to work well with physicians and all administrative levels of the organization. Working knowledge of EPIC billing system and electronic coding software programs is essential.
